Description: La Gomera is known as the magic island and is the second smallest of the canary islands after El Hierro. A whole third of the island is made up of protected national park, one of these parks called Garajonay National Park has been declared by UNESCO as the property of humanity. The development is built on the south of the island in an area called Playa de Santiago. Playa de Santiago is a quiet village with a working fishing port. Along the harbour there are several restaurants offering local cuisine where you can sit and while away the hours watching the fishing boats unloading their catch. The village offers 2 banks, a pharmacy, a post office, 2 grocery shops and a number of local craft/gift shops. To the west of the village lies the island airport, here only small aircraft can land, there are 3 flights daily to Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Hotel Jardin Tecina is situated amongst the 18 hole par 71 Tecina Golf Course. A Donald Steel designed golf course with uninterrupted panoramic views over the Atlantic Ocean. The club house facilities include a driving range, putting green, changing rooms, a country style bar, restaurant and pro shop. The hotel has tennis courts, paddle tennis and squash courts along with a choice of 5 restaurants which offer a variety of local and international dishes. Other sporting facilities include diving and sports fishing. The south coast has few currents and a range of caves that make for easy and excellent diving. Both beginners and experienced will find a magnificent submarine world to discover. Sports fishermen have the opportunity to fish for blue marlin, blue-fin tuna and Mahi Mahi, all being found off this coastline. There are also 3 beaches to enjoy this area, playa de Santiago, Tapahulga el Medio and Chinguarime. Local authorities have approved plans to expand the existing fishing harbour into a sporting marina. Two future hotels are to be built in this area. A 4 star hotel next to the Jardin Tecina and a 5 star hotel to the east of the golf course, overlooking the Tapahuga valley and Atlantic Ocean. |
